Morgan and Elroy

Last week I received one of those emails that was so good and lovely I had to re read it a few times to make sure I hadn't got it wrong.
Deb had bought two wonky bears a while ago at an Oppy, they had appealed to her. But now cleaning out her sewing room and didn't have room for the dudes. Being a reader of this blog and knowing my fondness for wonky old toys, she asked me if I wanted them!
Firstly I could not believe the generosity of this lady whom I'd never met and until now offering to send me wonky bears ( the best sort of present).
And secondly on scrolling down to see the attached pic of my possible new family members, I couldn't believe how much lovely Deb had understood the wonky sort of wrongness that I love. ( you know by wrongness I mean it with the highest esteem)
Today the boys arrived, and they are even better in the real. I've named them Morgan ( the guy with the tiny eyes and muzzle) and Elroy ( the grey dude).
this is just another one of those gorgeous blog stories. It makes me a little teary when I think about it.
thank you so much Deb they are absolutely wonderful .

Sweet sensitive souls

For those of you upset by yesterday's head/pin picture, I'm very sorry, I didn't mean to upset you.
Um sometimes I just forget , or I forget to mention Poncho was under anesthesia.
And now he's woken up and all together no pins I promise.
Have a great Friday xo
PS photographing black things is always hard, and this guy is very hard to capture. He's not very photogenic like his maker lets say.

Victor

the last time I was in a position to name a Penguin was 25 or so years old. I have to say my name choice Pengy then was less than inspired and didn't stand out for originality.
After seeing yesterdays pic of myself in my early years, I feel at least somthing has improved with age with me.
So this time I was determined not to repeat the past and come up with something better and not beginning with P.
Although I can't really take much credit for it this time. A while ago this wonderfulwoman challenged me to make a Victor, and to be honest I wasn't sure I had a Victor in me.

But then yesterday as I was working on this little Penguin , I realised that he could be nothing but Victor.
So this is Victor, who likes Belly dancing and pickled cucumbers.

He used to be a tram conductor, but well we know what happened to them. Oh he also the amazing and unusual skill for a TBW ami, he stands up BY HIMSELF!
have a great day!

what could have been

Today when buying fags at the supermarket I was served by a lovely young asian woman who had a cleft pallet, which made speaking harder for her.
SOme of you may not know I too was born with a cleft pallet ( and two nose bones). But unlike her I was able to receive an amazing surgery at the age of 3 months and which meant that my speech was not inpared . And again later when I was 15 to remove one of my nose bones, and join my lips properly so I could breathe through my nose.
I am grateful that I live in a country where we have access to clean, safe and amazing medical treatment and top surgeons., that can perform such miracles, because I doubt if I hadn't told you, you would be able to guess, i was born like this lovely lass. THat I can speak clearing and without anguish or hesiatation
I feel incredibly lucky too that my parents were able to afford such a surgery and that my days of being self concisious about my nose and left of "split " are over.
PS. That little ball of buddha is me ( a long time ago)

Couch Update

I thought it had been a while since I shared the craziness growing once again my couch.
Spencer is definitely struggling with that curve on the couch. Lucky he had Kermit to help hold him up
I was going to leave Marty out of the pic, but I think he have felt a little left out, plus the ami's like to have him looking over them.

Enter the Silver Streek

So I have a new computer. For those of you not up with up what's been going over here tech wise, my beloved old one, starting to die as of last week.
While I'm very happy to have a computer ( and working one at that again) I'm yet to feel the love.
You see when faced with buying a new one, I was presented a difficult choice, should I get a better one which I didn't like the look of or the same as I got last time which I sooo loved.
There was a lot of pressure to go better using words like "investment, memory, speed giggy things", and at the time it seemed like a logical choice. And so because I knew they were right, I did an unusual thing for me of going with my head and not my heart. I got the better one, which I didn't like so much. So why does the right decision feel like the wrong one?

So enter the Silver Streek, because well it's so slick and shiny- I think abit too slick for me.
And I'm sure in time I'll adjust, and maybe it's best not to get the same thing over. Maybe there is no comparing to the White wonder since it was the first ever computer I bought myself.
At least it sort of looks the same on the screen as the WW, same background pic.

On that topic the WW came home today, in all it's dirty white wonder, unfortunately now too past it to even turn on to say a final goodbye. I think it's going to go and hang out with Duckie.

My creative space

Meet Marty ( bear bits from last week). Since Posswonk was missing Colin, I thought perhaps Colin's brother might be a bit of comfort.
Marty's a gentle and sensitive bear, but strong too. It's funny a while ago I was talking about my bears and how the divide into two personality groups- the crazy and the gentle ones, to someone, and they thought gentle meant boring. I was surprised by that, and it's not the way I feel, I think gentle is a lovely quality to have, especially in a guy (or bear)
Like Colin, Marty's been entensively aged stained etc. And inspired by my old guy Gus.
Marty will be joining me and the wonklings for Craft Hatch.

Bye bye baby

the thing is I've been without my computer since Thursday. It developed this rather unendearing habit of restarting and restarting and restarting, especially when right in the middle of an email or something important. ANd once it started doing it, there would be no end to it, and then weirdly stop for a while - it seemed not to like morning- and then start up again.(I've been borrowing mum's laptop on and off so I'm not appearing from magic) So my computer has been in hospital. And today I found out my little white wonder isn't coming home. It's time for a new computer
I'm not someone who deals well with change or deaths of beloved things that have served me well ( Duckie the umbrella, my endless collection of clothes and shoes no long wearable but kept not to hurt their feelings who all sit in the sacred loved things cupboard) and my little white laptop falls into this catergory. Unlike some people who are excited at the thought of new more up to date computer, I'm deeply saddened. I loved the white wonder, it has served me so well for so many years, travelled many places with me, I've made so many lovely friends through it. When Jenny told me that it beyond repair, I couldn't help feel a tear in the back of my eye.
I know eventually the new computer will become the new white wonder , but it won't be that white wonder and I don't think they even make them in white anymore.

UH OH

My house has descended into further wonky chaos.
We now have 2 Posswonks in the building.

Covered

Plucking,
staining,

and generally making lots of mess.
Possibly my favourite part of this process is the experimenting. I've discovered some new, improved and highly technological ways of ageing the mohair- sitting on a leg does wonders in terms of felting and squishing.

my creative space

Isn't about nice things like making bears and crochet today, because for some reason my email has completely stopped being able to send and receive messages at 3.30pm yesterday , even though my internets fine.
I spent 40 mins on the phone to Telstra with no resolution and think it will be more of the same today. It's sooo frustrating and takes up so much time when machines don't work. AHHH.
So for now I'll over at squidgyandwonky@gmail again for email purposes.
Hope you are having some time to be creative.
Thinking of all those in Queensland affected by Cyclone Yasi.

Craft from the past and a giveaway- sort of

When my mum was doing some resorting on the weekend, she came across a few a of my early crafty creations.
It's funny timing in a way with Kate's post about a similiar issue.
The first one, the pencilbox I can't even remember when I made it, and guessing by the glitter hearts I would say when I was about 10 or so. I had actually forgotten all about it but totally remembered when I saw it. And as a bonus it has a huge collection of derwent pencils inside which never goes astray.
The quilt top I do rememeber, it was later on when I was about 17 and I was doing a bit of patchwork. I was making it for my mum I think. It comes from the era of my crafting career I call " I once was a craft psycho". I look at it now and think god I would never made that now, completely handpieced ( with paper people) and all the points and triangles.

Craft from the past is always a bit of a giggle.
ANd now she's given them both back to me, and I have no idea what to do with this quilt top.
WHich brings me to my weird giveaway thing. I was wondering if any of you wanted it?. THere is no way in 100 years I'm going to finish this quilt. Finishing quilts is not my strong suit. And I have so many of my old creations from the past I don't need another one.
It measures about 126cm x 144cm. It has a couple of stains, but all the paper bits have been removed. All it needs is a backing and maybe some batting and a border if you like.
SO if you would like it let me know in the comments section. I totally won't be offended if no one wants it- I mean I don't so how can I be? Just before I take it to the oppy...
Have a great day
