what could have been

Today when buying fags at the supermarket I was served by a lovely young asian woman who had a cleft pallet, which made speaking harder for her.
SOme of you may not know I too was born with a cleft pallet ( and two nose bones). But unlike her I was able to receive an amazing surgery at the age of 3 months and which meant that my speech was not inpared . And again later when I was 15 to remove one of my nose bones, and join my lips properly so I could breathe through my nose.
I am grateful that I live in a country where we have access to clean, safe and amazing medical treatment and top surgeons., that can perform such miracles, because I doubt if I hadn't told you, you would be able to guess, i was born like this lovely lass. THat I can speak clearing and without anguish or hesiatation
I feel incredibly lucky too that my parents were able to afford such a surgery and that my days of being self concisious about my nose and left of "split " are over.
PS. That little ball of buddha is me ( a long time ago)

I couldn't agree with you more Jess. If I was born somewhere other than here, I may not still be here at all!

Is it too late for that woman you saw in the shop? I hope she won't have to live with it forever if she lives in Australia now.

It's so easy to forget, isn't it? Just how bloody lucky some people are and just how so many simply don't get access to those sort of advantages.

WHo would have thunk you could be a CHUBBA CHUBS of a bambino?!?!

I am grateful for that technology too as my firstborn was a cleft pal baby too. She wasn't chubby, more like a skinned rabbit, so had to wait till 18 months for her op but it is still great that we can have these things done for free. Did the girl have the hare lip as well or was it a hard or soft palate problem. I'm with curly Pops on please give up the fags. Cherrie

What a cute little budda you were! I think modern surgery is amazing for things like clefts. You would never know that a bubba was born that way unless you asked. Amazing. We certainly are lucky... I wonder if there is a chance for the shopkeeper? x

How right you are - so easy for us all to take things for granted. You were lucky, many other aren't and suffer in silence...
(Mummy K&C says kick the fag habit before it's too late!).

That is such a huge thing to be grateful for. How amazing that you were able to get that done at such a young age too! Absolutely gorgeous bub!

(I've been trying to comment on your other posts, but our internet is not good where we are!)xx
